Our Icon Chain traces its roots back to the time-honored art of chain-weaving—a centuries-old Balinese craft tradition revived in the 1970s by our founder, John Hardy.

Each link is shaped, woven, and refined using traditional tools and techniques—an intricate process requiring four hours of labor to complete a single inch of chain.

What began in 1975 as a single chain has grown into an entire family of weaves and woven-inspired styles.

Today, in addition to our original Icon chain, we make a bold Icon Chevron chain, streamlined Icon Link chain, and the hand-carved Icon 50 motif—all bearing the mark of our weaving DNA.

Our original Icon lives on across a range of metalways, proportions, and clasps—micro-pavé, reversible, custom-engraved—each woven and crafted to look and feel exceptional.
